Back to School Activities

Back to school activities for groups of new students and also for those who already know each other

Are you are looking for back to school activities? Whether you teach a new group of students or a group of students that already know each other, for the first days of school year you need different activities than usual...

some "getting to know each other" activities, some activities to deepen the children's familiarity with their friends, and even... some summer vacation experiences.

All these you can find here.

Introductory activities for new students

A little about myself...
Accessories: A4 cardstock, magazines, scissors, glue.

Each student will choose images out of a magazine which represents things that he likes, his hobbies or his expectations from the new school year. With these images and with the addition of a suitable text, each student will design his own collage. Later, each student will present the collage he created to his friends and his friends will have to give him feedback or ask him questions.

Who am I and what is my name?
In turns each student will say his name to his friends and they will ask him questions such as:
Who chose your name and why they chose it?
Do you like it?
What does it mean?
Would you like to change your name?
Do you have a nickname?
Are you named after someone?

More than a name...
Accessories: A basket containing strips of paper on which are written different sentences to complete.

Examples of sentences to complete:

I like...
I'm excited when...
I'm afraid of...
I do not like...
My favorite song...
My hobby...
In leisure time I...
I admire...

All students sit in a circle. In turns, each student will take a note from the basket and complete it.

Back to school activities for students who know each other

True or false
Each student will write on a piece of paper three sentences: one sentence is true and the other two are false. In turns, each student will read his sentences and his friends would have to guess which statement is true.

I want to wish you
Each student will write his name on a piece of paper and put it in a basket. The students will sit in a circle. In turns, each student will take a piece of paper from the basket and wish the child whose name is written on paper best of luck for the new school year.

Find out my name
Each student will receive a card and write his name incorrectly, for example: Eric = riec.

All the cards will be entered into a basket. In turns, each student will pick one card and will have to identify the name which is written on it.

If a student fails to identify the name, he can ask for help from a friend. If both of them fail, they will seek help from another friend, and so on.
