Back to School Checklist

Things that you should do for the return to school



This back to school checklist will help you start the new school year "on the right foot".

When the clock is ticking and the return to school is on our doorstep, it's a good idea to be ready and organized.

But what do you need to do to ensure the return to school will be both easy and pleasant?

Let's check that we haven't forgotten anything.


About two weeks before the opening of the school year

Talk to your child about the upcoming school year.
Ensure that your child returns to the school time sleep schedule.
If your child is starting a new school:
  • Take him/her to visit the school.
  • Make an appointment to meet the homeroom teacher.
  • Relay all the important and relevant information about your child which will enable him/her to begin the school year easily such as: your child's strengths and weaknesses, medical problems, family situation, etc.
  • Purchase school supplies.
  • Write your child's name on each item possible with a permanent maker.
  • Arrange rides to school and back if necessary.
  • Make arrangements for after school supervision such as: a babysitter or an after school framework.

The evening before the opening of the school year

Talk to your child about what he/she should expect about tomorrow.
Ensure that your child has organized his/her school bag properly and has not forgotten anything.
Prepare the clothes for the morning in order to save time.
Prepare your child's lunch as per his/her request, and keep it in the refrigerator.
Put your child to bed early so that it will be easier for him/her to wake up in the morning.


The first day of school

Wake your child early so that he/she will have plenty of time to get ready.
Ensure that he/she eats breakfast at home and send a packed lunch with him/her.
Make an effort to accompany him/her to school (at least on the first day).
Wish him/her a wonderful day and say goodbye.


At the end of the first day of school

Collect your child from school.
Ask him/her to tell you about his/her day.
Check whether there are any important messages from school.
Indulge your child (and yourself) in an especially delicious dessert...
