Writing Exercises

On the first day of school,it's customary to hear from the kids what they did during their vactation from school, what their expectations are from school and what their expectations are from themselves etc...

After this we give them the opportunity to express themselves in writing.

Here are pages for free writing that you may utilize on the first day of school.

And Bookmarks too...

On these the kids can write their expectations of the coming year. Once the bookmarks have been written on you can laminate them and return them to the kids so that they can use them when they read.

Excellent activities for breaking the ice on the first day.

Distribute the following page to the kids, and ask them to write as many words as they can for each letter of the ABC. All the words must be related to the back to school theme.

While the kids are writing the words, write all of the letters on the board. After about ten minutes, collect all of the words that the kids have written and write them on the board.

See if you can find letters that words were not found for, which letters have the most words and who found words for all of the letters. etc...
