Christmas Party Activities

Are you looking for Christmas party activities? What do you think about having a slightly different kind of party? The kind in which all of the kids are active during all of the party, no one has to wait in line, and everyone is occupied and having a great time. Does it sound like a party you would like to plan? If so, here's an idea for a holiday party rich with fun activities for kids.

Preparations
Before the party, make sure that you have:

• A large space
• Tables and chairs
• Background music
• A host

Accessories
Task pages on which are written the instructions for carrying out all of the activities, writing equipment, construction papers, scissors, glue, markers or crayons, colored newspapers, word search pages, plain paper, jelly candy, sheets of transparent cellophane paper, colored ribbon, wooden skewers, bingo cards.

Structure of Activities

• Divide the space into six stations. A work table, chairs and a sign stating the number of the station and the name of the activity, will be placed at each station.
• In the background appropriate holiday music will be played.
• Divide the kids into 6 groups. Each group will take their place at a different station.
• The task cards and the accessories required for the activity will be placed on each table at the various stations.
• The activity at each table will be time restricted (no more than ten minutes).
• The host will be assigned to keeping track of time, and informing the kids when it's time to move on to the next station.
• In the end, each group will display its produce from the various stations, and will receive a bouquet of candy and a holiday greeting card.

Ideas for Christmas party activities

Word search
A word search is a great activity for any age. The age difference is only apparent by the level and number of words that the kids are required to find. I have prepared three word searches at different levels for you to choose from.

Writing new song lyrics for an existing tune
For this activity the kids will have to invent new song lyrics for an existing Christmas song. The new song lyrics must be connected to the holiday.

Creating a Slogan
With the aid of colored newspapers, construction paper and crayons, the kids are required to create an original slogan for one the holiday symbols.

Breaking the code
Invent a code and create code cards. The kids will have to break the code with the assistance of the code cards. The idea is that after the kids have broken the code they will discover a text connected to the holiday. The text could be a song, an expression of some kind, or even an important message.

Word building
In this activity the kids will be required to find as many words as possible that can be made out of the letters appearing in the phrase "Merry Christmas".

Sing a song
In this activity the kids are required to practice singing a Christmas song to the melody of a different one.

Christmas Bingo
For this activity the assistance of an adult is required to activate the station.

Each child will receive a bingo card which consists of phrase connected to the holiday. You can buy ready made Bingo Christmas Games or make them by yourself.

In the center of the table, a basket containing chocolate coins or colored candy will be placed.

The person who is assigned to activate the station will draw a card from the card bank that is in his possession. He will then read out the phrase that is written on it. Each child will find the phrase on his/her bingo card and cover it with a chocolate coin or colored candy.

The first one who succeeds in covering a row, a line or a diagonal line on the bingo card is the winner.

At the end of the game each child may take the chocolate coins or candy that he/she has managed to accumulate.

Writing greeting cards
At this station the kids are required to write holiday greetings. The recipient of the greeting card is not specified, but the name of the author is. At the end of the party each child will draw a greeting card out of the greeting card bank, consequently, the recipient of each card cannot be known in advance.

Sweet Bouquets
In this activity the kids will create sweet bouquets. Each child will receive three wooden skewers, jelly candy, a transparent cellophane sheet and a ribbon. The kids will pierce the pieces of candy, place them onto the wooden skewers, and wrap them using the cellophane paper and the ribbon. At the end of the party each child will receive a sweet bouquet and a greeting card (from the previous activity).
