Kids have a habit of getting too close to the fire. They don't realize the danger of getting burnt and don't keep a safe distance from the fire. It's therefore a good idea that they prepare the recipes in a safe place, away from the fire, and avoid putting the food on and off it.

Pita bread

Preparation of pita bread in the field is one of the most favorite activities for kids of all ages. The pita bread is baked on a saage, which is a special utensil for baking pita bread. It is made out of tin and is shaped like dome. The saage is placed on stones which are arranged around the burning coals.

  • Pour into a bowl one kilo of flour and a little salt. Gradually, add water and kneed.
  • The dough should be smooth but not too soft.
  • Make small balls out of the dough (around 10-12)
  • Flatten the balls and stretch using your hands until the dough is very thin. (If it is too thick it will not bake on the inside) Try to make sure that the dough is an even width. If it rips a little it doesn't matter.
  • Place the dough on the saage, and bake on both sides.
  • Remove the pita bread when it is dry on both sides.
  • You can spread any kind of spread that you like to eat on the pita bread, although it's important to add that even without spread the pita bread is delicious.

Upgrading the pita bread

Pita bread with Zaatar

  • After you have opened the dough spread a little olive oil and zaatar on it, and only then place the dough on the saage. The zaatar gives the pita bread a special flavor, and it comes out really delicious.
  • You can also eat it with cream cheese or with labane and then it's a real delicacy!

Pizza from pita bread

  • Prepare pizza sauce - mix tomato puree, salt, black pepper, oregano, crushed garlic and water in a bowl.
  • Spread the dough with the sauce, sprinkle grated cheese extra toppings if you like them (olives, mushrooms, onions, etc.), and place the pita bread onto the saage. When the cheese has melted and the dough has hardened the pizza is ready to be eaten.
