Indoor Activities for Kids

There are many hours that the kids spend in the house during the summer vacation, and to ensure that they don't vegetate in front of the TV all day, we have to occupy them with suitable activities.

There's no doubt that the kids' summer vacation challenges us into innovative thinking every time, and forces us to find new ideas for activities, so that the kids are kept both busy and happy.

Off-Broadway Musical

by Ilene, C.
(Valley Stream, NY)

Children can make a summer project of "staging" a well known musical, getting the score, and having a performance at the end of the season. It's a good way to learn all about show business and how hard it is to become a good performer.

Magic Show

by Mark, S.
(Grand Rapids, MI)

The kids were bored and I was working from home. I needed an activity that would take up lots of their time, and that they could handle on their own.

We had several kits for magic tricks lying around, so viola!

First they made a plan of what their "stage" would look like, gathered all the materials and created their stage.

Next they chose their costumes and their stage names - we looked online to see images of magicians.

Finally they used the magic tricks out of the box and made up some of their own. Several hours of practice and work later, they performed the magic show!

Wow!
by: Kat

I love the Magic Show activity.
Sometimes we come out with good ideas when we need them the most!
We find solutions instantly without planning, and it works.
I guess this activity is one of those moments.
Brilliant idea :-)

Thanks!

Rainy Day Mad-Libs

by Abby, D.
(Norwell, MA)

This activity is really easy and provides great entertainment for parent and child alike.

First you create a mad-lib by writing a story and leaving out some key words. If you aren't feeling inspired, you may use a magazine article, newspaper story, nursery rhyme, or any other story source. Just photocopy it and blank out different words keeping in mind what parts of speech are needed to fill it back in.

You can come up with some pretty outrageous tales while teaching your kids "nouns" "verbs" and other parts of speech. Cheap and easy fun!

Creative Gaming

by Kathy, S.
(Hailey, ID)

Have your kids create their own board game. Builds creativity and artistic talents plus you have a game to play the rest of the summer.
