Outdoor Activities for Kids
The summer is the most suitable season for outdoor activities for kids, and therefore a large portion of the summer activities for kids take place outdoors - going to the beach or the swimming pool, visiting various sites, playing in the garden or at the local park, cultivating your garden or yard etc.
Sidewalk Timeby Stacy, C. (Akron, Ohio) During the summer our kids get bored doing the same thing (2 and 4) so this spring I let them paint the sidewalk (using washable paint) they both painted a message for daddy when he comes home from work. Summer Cookoutby John W. (Glen, VA) Each summer I have a big cookout where friends, family can bring side dishes, I have gold fish ponds and people like to watch the fish swim. I also have a live band at the cookout; everyone enjoys the annual summer cookout I have here at my house. Outdoor Campoutby Lisa, S. (Spring, TX)
We set up a tent Four-Leaf Clover Hunting by Mary, J. (Clarksdale, MS)
You can never have too much luck. A good summer activity to help your energetic kids wind down before going inside is a good, old-fashioned four-leaf clover hunt. Even the wee ones can help!
Pool Activitiesby Jennifer, C. (West Chester, PA) It's called "Free Style" off the diving board. My little cousins like to make a game out of different jumps / dives they can do off the diving board and who ever is outside watching them has to rate the jump. It's quite fun and interesting on what they can come up with.
Pool Activityby Jessica, V. (Houma, LA) The kids and I look forward to summer so we can swim in our pool. We slather on sun block and spend countless hours in the pool. We play games such as blind man's buff, and volleyball.
Flip it Walkby Ellen, O.. (Melrose, MA) My sons and I like to get out and move, so when it is really hot we will take a "Flip-It" Walk. We bring a quarter, and when we get to a corner we "flip it!" If the coin lands on heads, we go left. If it lands on tails, we go right. Sometimes we end up going in circles, but we never get bored, and we always (eventually) make it home.
Kick the Canby Elizabeth, D. (Florence, AL) Night time game played in the summer where one person is it and the rest hide...when it person finds a hider they both race back to the can and whoever kicks it first wins...it hider kicks it first the other person stays it, if seeker kicks first then other person become the seeker.
Scavenger Huntsby JoAnne, W. (Olympia, WA) While camping, we hunt for certain woods items or leaves. Example, maple leaf, pine cone, river rock.
Strawberry Pickingby Susan, G. (Forest Lake, MN) I try to take my daughter and her children strawberry picking in the summer. It shows the little ones where food really comes from and helps them appreciate the earth.
Collecting Shellsby Zaheer, M. (Karachi, Pakistan) Collecting Shells is one of my favorite activities at beaches in summer. I use to collect shells and then clean them with good care. After that I keep them in a box so that I can make hand wearing.
