Spring is such a glorious season isn't it? The days are getting warmer, and at long last we can go outside and enjoy the scent of the flowers in bloom, the insects that have suddenly come to life, and all the wonders nature has to offer us during this time of year.

Indoor Spring Activities for Kids
What do you do with the kids on those cold and rainy days when you can't go outside? Here are some ideas for spring activities for kids that you can do indoors.

On good days I advise you to go out in nature and look at the beautiful natural blossom of the flowers, but what do you do when that's not an option? You bring nature home! The ideas for creating flowers are endless. Just let your imagination run wild. You can make flowers from plastic bottles and from origami, create amazing flowers from plasticine or make flower jewelry from Fimo. Use your creativity and your kids', and transform your house into a flowering garden of your own making.

| Sprouting Seeds |

Sprouting seeds at home is an especially fun educational activity. Of all the activities I did as a child, this is one of the most memorable. There was a whole celebration around sprouting at my house, at the end of which the sprouts were an integral part of our daily salad ingredients. Go on, have a go yourself at sprouting seeds and tell me how you celebrated the process.

It's always a good idea to have a few printable ideas for activities on hand, such as: coloring pages, word searches, jumbled words, games, etc. Activities such as these can remedy the monotony problem and the lack of kids' occupation.

Outdoor Spring Activities for Kids

Blowing soap bubbles can occupy kids happily for ages. The advantage of it being the simplicity of its preparation. Mix a small amount of liquid soap with water. Create a ring with a pipe cleaner, and allow your kids to blow bubbles to their heart's content.

If you have your own back yard you can designate an area for the kids where they can grow crops. In the school where I teach we did a similar thing. The kids planted different vegetables and tended the garden on a daily basis: they uprooted weeds, watered the crops, and nurtured them. Once the vegetables were ripe we made a festive breakfast. The salad was made by the kids from the vegetables that they had grown in the garden. I have never seen kids eat vegetables so enthusiastically.

You can take advantage of the unstable whether for flying kites. Choose a nice warm spring day on which you expect to have a breeze and get out with the kids to fly kites. You can make the kites at home in advance and save them for a suitable day.

| Building and Flying Model Airplanes |

This is an amazing activity that I did with my pupils during one of the school vacations. There's no doubt that I earned "Brownie Points" on that day. So what does the activity actually include? In short... coloring the parts of the model aircraft, assembling it and flying it in the air. Sounds short and simple doesn't it? The truth is that the activity is simple and wonderful, and the time? Well, the duration of our activity was about four hours of continuous enjoyment. Go ahead and try it at home - you won't be disappointed.

How many flowers do your kids know? Have they actually seen them growing or only at the florist? And what do they know about insects? If you wish to connect your kids to nature, go out on a trip with them. Look at the amazing bloom of the flowers. Try to identify the flowers and plants that grow there. Search for colorful butterflies and other living creatures. Simply spend a day in nature and enjoy everything it has to offer.
