Preschool Winter Activities

Activate your body and soul with winter activities
Preschool winter activities were designed to occupy you and your child either at home or in an educational framework.

Well O.K., you could just complain that it's raining outside and that you can't go outside with the kids; but then again you could just enjoy the cozy atmosphere at home.

You could climb out of the snuggly blanket, play winter games, take part in movement activities for energizing and getting your blood stream flowing.

You can riddle riddles and listen to the sound of the falling rain and be happy that you are inside the house and not outside in the stormy, rainy weather.

To the sound of the raindrops, move on to the winter activities some of which energize you and get your blood stream flowing and others that activate your soul. Choose the activities that suit you best.

Games

Who is missing?
  • Arrange 4 different winter items in a row.
  • Allow your child to memorize the items.
  • Ask your child to turn around, and when he does, hide one item.
  • The child has to discover which winter item is missing.
You can make it harder by adding items and/or hiding one or more items.

Try not to get mixed up
  • Arrange 3-4 kids in a row.
  • Give each child one winter item.
  • Each time you say the name of an item the child who has the item has to hold it up high in the air.
  • At the beginning say the items slowly, each time a different item.
  • Once the kids have got the hang of the game, try to confuse them. Change the order of the items, repeat the same item several times in a row etc...
  • A child who gets mixed up is out of the game.
  • The last one standing is the winner.

Group Movement Activities for the Winter

From Puddle to Puddle
  • Wear Wellington boots
  • Arrange a course of hoops (the hoops are the puddles).
  • At the sound of the music, the kids begin to skip from hoop to hoop (from puddle to puddle).
  • As they are playing change the instructions: jump with two feet, jump with one foot, jump with two feet and with your hands on your hips. For the older kids you can tell them to jump backwards.

Hiding from the Rain
  • Arrange hoops in an open space (the hoops are the home base).
  • At the sound of the music the kids begin to turn around in the open space.
  • When the music stops, the entertainer bangs rapidly on a drum (like raindrops falling).
  • The kids run to find shelter from the rain (in the hoop).
  • When the rain subsides and the music begins, the kids may leave their home base and continue to wander around in the open space.
